Meet Miela – Confident, Gentle, and Ready to Love
Miela is a beautiful Baja rescue pup with the perfect mix of confidence and kindness. She's gentle, affectionate, and incredibly well-mannered — already house-trained, sleeping soundly indoors through the night, and walking politely on leash with minimal guidance.

This smart girl is picking up basic commands quickly in both English and Spanish. She’s already mastered “sit” and “down” and is working on “stay” and “off” — all while being food-motivated, but not dependent on treats to listen.

Miela enjoys morning and evening playtime, especially a short game of fetch, and is happy to entertain herself with toys or quietly chew on her favorite bones and hooves (which she sometimes buries, but always remembers!). She’s a quiet companion overall, only offering an alert bark when a cow happens to wander by.

She’s getting used to car rides and now hops in and out like a pro. Most of all, Miela loves to be loved — she thrives on pets, snuggles, and simply being near her people.

06/02/25 Update! Unfortunately Miela's foster left the area so she has been residing at the Rescue. She is doing amazing! She loves to play with pups and dogs of all sizes. 

History: Miela followed my husband home from the beach and seemed to be weary. We gave her water and she laid down to take a long nap. We noticed that she had an injury from a bite on her right front elbow and we took her to have Veterinary attention. We then realized that she was probably a wanderer because she was forging for plant foods and bugs to eat. Vet assessment was that she was about 6months at that time. We contacted Cortez Rescue to register her and we have been fostering her for the last month and a half.

Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to ensure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and spayed/neutered. All dogs are micro-chipped before leaving Mexico.
