Foster update: Zeus is a sweet, smart, affectionate lap dog with a good heart who is a very good boy. At 4 ½, he still has a lot of puppy left in him; he is curious about everything, very playful and has lots of energy but mellows out quickly if asked. He loves his ball and can play fetch all day long. Zeus has very soft white fur with light brown freckling. His eyes are golden buttons set in the most innocent looking face. We are not sure you could find a more loyal companion than Zeus.

This misunderstood boy was in the shelter for over a year and a half and did not do well there. We were apprehensive about taking him on but from the moment we picked him up from the airport, he has been a completely different dog than he was in the shelter. He has shown no aggression toward us or any other human. He notices squirrels and cats while on walks but doesn’t pull to chase them. He's not a barker.

He is easily trained and looks to his people for guidance. He has learned so much about how to live in a house since we got him. He is the best foster dog we have had in regard to how well he walks on leash. He knows sit, stay, come, heal and leave it. He is crate trained; in that we put him in the crate at night and he naps in it sometimes during the day, but we have never put him in it when we leave the house. We either put him outside or in the bathroom.

Zeus would do well in a home with a person or people who are familiar with dogs and who can give him consistent guidelines. He is an active dog and a good-sized yard is a must. By all accounts of the volunteers at the shelter, he loves hiking. Zeus is not always great with other dogs but could do well with slow introductions. The only time he takes an issue with another dog on a walk is if the other dog starts it. Otherwise, he seems curious about them but mostly ignores them.

Temperament: Affectionate; Resource guarding, Prey drive & Separation Anxiety: None observed

Zeus was abandoned in a little town south of where shelter is.

Before leaving Cortez Rescue, he will be given a full medical assessment to insure he is in optimum health. Zeus is currently being fostered in Portland, OR.
