Meet Canela – Trained, Loyal, and Ready for Her Person 🧡🐾

Canela has come a long way since arriving at the rescue scared, underweight, and unsure of the world. With time, care, and patience, she’s grown into a confident, loving dog who’s ready for a real home of her own.

She recently completed training at The Dog School in San José, and she truly impressed everyone there. Canela knows her basic commands, is house-trained, walks beautifully on leash, and has the kind of manners that make her easy to take anywhere — including outdoor restaurants, where she calmly settles in and just enjoys being near her person.

To help her keep all the great skills she’s learned, Canela is staying at the school while she waits to be adopted. She’s doing great there — social, engaged, and continuing to thrive — but what she really needs is someone to choose her.

Canela is affectionate, smart, and benefits from regular exercise. She does best in a home without cats and would prefer a home without other female dogs, though she can do well with the right male companion.

She’s done the hard part. She’s learned, grown, and become an incredible dog. Now she’s just waiting for her chance at a forever home.

History: Sadly this beautiful girl was used as a guard dog and spent 2 years on a short chain with no attention.

Health: 03/22/24 Canela had surgery to remove the plate in her leg (from an old fracture) as it was causing some pain. She has a slight limp but it does not slow her down one bit.

Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to ensure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and spayed/neutered. All dogs are micro-chipped before leaving Mexico.
