Foster Update: Gemma was a feral dog rescued with her litter of 3-day old puppies living under an abandoned car for protection. She and the puppies went into foster care immediately and since that day she has raised her happy, healthy pups, known as the "G litter," and remains in the same foster care.
Now that the puppies are weaned, Gemma is finally gaining back some weight and her lovely golden red coat is becoming soft and smooth. Gemma will be a sleek short haired beauty of medium/large size who looks a bit like a Black Mouth Cur. Her disposition is very sweet and gentle. She rides happily in the car but still needs work with being comfortable on leash. She has quickly learned to "sit" and her intelligence should make it easy for her to learn other commands easily. Gemma has not spent significant time with other dogs. We are working on developing her confidence by giving her a friend who is a very happy confident dog. They get along beautifully, kissing and playing together. She has not been tested with cats or other animals.
Gemma was rescued from living under a car in the community of La Capilla. This is her second litter as she already had a litter of 4 puppies.
Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to ensure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and desexed. All dogs are microchipped before leaving Mexico.
