Hi, my name is Gretel. I've had a ruff life and I'm a very shy dog at first but once I warm up I'm the best dog ever!
Gretel is a loving and happy pup though she does need time to trust. She is an extremely smart girl and learns quickly with repetition. She knows how to sit, lay down and wait. Gretel loves her treats and responds quite well to frequent, short training sessions with high value rewards. This sweet girls drive to please is huge but she must do things at a pace which allows her to learn positivity and to trust. Gretel is fully house trained and will retreat to her quiet spot if nervous or afraid. She requires a home on the quieter side, other pups are ok and she would do her best with someone willing to let her advance at her own speed with gentle pushes when she is ready. Gretel will accept a leash and harness and will walk in quiet areas but is often startled by noises, people and wind sounds. This sweet girl is, and may always be, a work in progress but no less of an amazing and loving dog.
Foster Updates: Gretel is an extremely timid and shy girl. She will require an owner/family with the time and patience to help her overcome her fears in order for her to integrate well into her new family . She is currently in a foster home where she is learning to become part of a family (with other dogs) and all that entails. Her trust continues to grow each day; however, meeting others is still difficult for her. She has no problems with other dogs and often follows the lead of others in the pack.
History: Sadly, because of her shyness, sweet Gretel has been with Cortez Rescue over 1000 days. Gretel has had a rough start to her precious life and is working on learning to trust again. She is yet another shining example of the amazing resilience of dogs. She has come leaps and bounds since coming to the rescue with several amazing fosters that have shown her love and patience.
I'm in Baja Sur but am fully vetted and, for the right family, I can fly up to you anytime! Before leaving Cortez Rescue, Gretel will be given a full medical assessment to ensure she remains in optimum health. She has been spayed. All dogs are micro-chipped before leaving Mexico.
