If you're seeking a loyal companion with a heart full of love, Maya might just be the perfect addition to your family. She is a resilient and loving soul who has triumphed over adversity and is ready to find her forever home. This sweet girl was surrendered by her previous owner due to health issues that were beyond their ability to take care of. Sweet Maya has overcome her health challenges in the care of our local fosters. She has a fabulous personality and has a medium energy level. She loves to play ball and play with her other dog friends. It should be noted that adopting Maya means providing her with the love and care she needs and deserves, ensuring that the second chapter of her life is filled with happiness, love and security. She will need to be regularly checked for recurring cancer growths and treated as needed so local adoption is advised due to potential future treatment costs. Can you give this sweet girl the love and care needed?
Foster Update: Maya is an absolute joy to have around. She is sweet, incredibly affectionate, always sticking close like a loyal shadow. She has a positive and happy demeanor, constantly displaying interest in meeting other dogs without any signs of aggression. Maya seamlessly integrated into a household with a Jack Russell and a Baja Special, respecting the pack dynamics. Her love for balls is infectious. Whether she's playing Pickleball or watching from the sidelines, her enthusiasm is boundless. When introduced to a kennel for bedtime, she quickly caught on to the routine and willingly retreats to her sleeping space. She responds well to commands and is content when left alone in the bedroom during short absences.
Health update 05/12/24: Maya had 7 cancer growths removed. They were small, about the size of a marble or smaller. It's been 2 years since the last cancer growths were removed. The Vet believes that she will need to have growths removed about every 1 to 2 years, and they need to be monitored so they don't get too big. Maya's vet recommends regular retests for cancer every three months for up to a year. While she is currently in good health, local adoption is advised due to potential future treatment costs. Other than that, she is a happy, lovable girl and in pretty good health, and she is definitely worth the effort!
Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to ensure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and spayed/neutered. All dogs are micro-chipped before leaving Mexico.
