I've found my furever family!

11/24: weight is 27.5 lbs

This sweet love had a terrible start to life. When Jewel arrived at Cortez, she was very skinny but had a huge belly. She was retaining a large amount of fluid. She underwent two attempts to drain the fluid but it came back both times. Then we moved her to a foster and the changes began to happen all on their own! Here's what foster mom has to say about Jewel: Oh, Jewel is doing fantastically! She's coming into health, even growing hair! Each day reveals she's younger than she looked. She's got a puppy spirit but is totally house trained and sleeps through the night. She is eager to please, but also very strong. She's a happy girl who will even throw her own toy! She loves the hugs most, and peanut butter.

Foster family update: Jewel is truly a gem. As she has regained her health, her playful puppy spirit has emerged. She wants nothing more than love and a lap, but she will also throw a toy for herself. We live on an orchard, so she has delighted in throwing and catching her own avocados. Jewel has been sweet with our little dog, easily respecting his space when he reminds her. She has been gentle and loving with everyone. She hasn't destroyed anything except her toys. She sleeps through the night, is fully potty trained (and goes quickly, when you're standing outside in the dark). She benefits most from hugs and kisses, really seeming to need that reassurance. We will be sad to part with her, but we can't keep them all. Whoever becomes Jewel's family will be very lucky and very loved. Jewel is great on leash, great recall off leash, likes walking through water but doesn’t swim yet, likes car rides, not sure about crate but not destructive when left alone, sleeps in a dog bed in the bedroom, sleeps all night.
