Weâre excited to introduce something newâour official blog. And with that, a new way to share the heart behind everything we do.
Over the years, Cortez Rescue has grown from a small, passionate effort into a deeply rooted part of the East Cape community. Along the way, weâve rescued, rehabilitated, and re-homed countless dogs. Each one has a story. Some are joyful, others are heartbreaking, but all of them matter.
This blog is where those stories will live.
Rescue work doesnât happen in the backgroundâit happens because people care. More importantly, it happens because a community shows up.
With that in mind, this space gives us the opportunity to share what truly goes into dog rescue in Baja California Sur. Not only the wins, but also the in-between moments. The slow progress. The patience. The small breakthroughs that often go unseen.
In addition, youâll hear from different voices here. Volunteers, fosters, adopters, and community members will all contribute. Each perspective helps paint a fuller picture of what it really means to give a dog a second chance.
At its core, dog rescue is about more than finding homes.
It involves early mornings, long days, and constant problem-solving. On top of that, there is medical care, rehabilitation, socialization, and trust-buildingâoften with dogs who have never experienced safety or consistency.
At the same time, rescue requires long-term commitment.
While some dogs find homes quickly, others take monthsâor even yearsâto fully come around. For example, dogs like Honey remind us that progress doesnât follow a timeline. Instead, it happens step by step, built on trust and patience.
Because of that, these are the stories that stay with us.
None of this work happens without people. In fact, community is at the center of everything we do.
Volunteers show up week after week. They walk dogs, clean spaces, and spend quiet time with those who need it most. Meanwhile, fosters open their homes, giving dogs a safe place to decompress and learn what life can be. In addition, flight angels help transport dogs to their forever homes, often going out of their way to make it happen.
Every role matters.
Even small actions make a difference. Whether itâs sharing a post, stopping by an event, or donating supplies, each contribution helps move this mission forward. Ultimately, rescue is not just about the dogsâitâs about the people who choose to care.
This blog is meant to be a place for connection.
Here, youâll find rescue stories, behind-the-scenes insights, and updates from our team. Youâll also see features on some of the incredible dogs in our care, along with stories from the community that supports them.
Some posts will make you smile. Others may be harder to read. However, all of them reflect the reality of rescueâand the impact it has when people come together.
If youâre reading this, youâre already part of the story.
Whether youâve adopted, volunteered, fostered, donated, or simply followed along, your support matters more than you know. Because of you, this work continues.
And now, through this blog, we get to share even more of that journey.
Together, through rescue and prevention, weâre creating lasting change. đŸđ
Weâre just getting started.
At the same time, we recognize that rescue is only part of the solution. Thatâs why we proudly support the work of SNAP â Spay Neuter & Prevention, whose efforts to provide accessible spay and neuter services are critical in reducing overpopulation and preventing future suffering.
