I'm ready for my new family!

Khaleese

I'm Available

12/4/23 Weight: 78.6lbs

Estimated DOB: 12/10/18

I am being fostered at The Dog School in San Jose del Cabo, where I passed with flying colours!! I'm ready to fly to you!!

Khaleese has completed her Training School and this is a note from her trainer: "Khaleese is a very loving dog, intelligent and protective. She loves to play with balls and rags. She is dominant without being aggressive, so coexistence with dogs of her size is recommended along with regular obedience reinforcement. Due to her breed, she is an animal with a lot of energy and anxiety around work, and requires daily exercise and ample space. The ideal family should cover these basic needs, in addition to being firm in setting limits. Experienced owners recommended."

Khaleese is a beautiful young adult Shepherd mix. She was surrendered to Cortez Rescue in August of 2021. We unfortunately don’t know details about her past but it does appear she was never trained in basic commands nor well socialized. Cortez Rescue put Khaleese into a structured and behavioral skill development program, which included human and dog socialization work. She adapted well to her new structured training and in just a few days demonstrated an eagerness to please and a desire to learn. She is currently working through her kennel manners and basic obedience such as sit, stay, recall and just being a calm and gentle girl. As with most Shepherd breeds, Khaleese is smart and responds well to the work and training. What she needs in a forever home is an experienced adopter who has the skills and time to commit to her continued development. In our opinion, initially at least, it would be best for Khaleese to be the only pet in the home. We have not yet been able to determine her prey drive. It is unknown at present how Khaleese would respond to children so given this uncertainty our recommendation is a for a home without children. Khaleese will require a secure yard with a high fence. Given the right handler and environment, we are confident that this girl will be a well behaved, loyal friend and loving companion. It will be essential that Khaleese’s adopter become familiar with the training techniques that are currently being used so that they can be continued after she leaves Cortez Rescue, ensuring Khaleese her path to success.

Before leaving Cortez Rescue, Khaleese will be given a full medical assessment to insure she remains in optimum health. Khaleese is not microchipped. Please go to cortezrescue.org for further details about adoption fees and any possible transportation costs/issues or call with any further questions you may have about this this lovable and delightful dog. She currently lives in Baja near Cabo San Lucas.
