Hello! My name is Yam! I'm a nice boy! Can I be yours? I'm in Foster in Vancouver, BC.

Yam and his sisters were rescued from the dump by a nice local family. They fostered them until we had room at the rescue. Yam is a nice boy. He is kind, gentle and can be a little shy at first but warms up quickly. He likes to have a good time with all his doggy friends. A little splashing in the pool and some good old ball chasing keeps him happy. He is quiet and calm and does like to just hang out close by. Yam will be a very loyal companion. Cat test results: Distrustful but wagged his tail, nothing aggressive.

Foster Update Jan.31/24(Vancouver, BC): Yam is a Lab mix who is a sweet angel boy. He is very affectionate and loves cuddling. Even though he is still a pup he is pretty low energy, as long as he gets at least one run around or a longer walk per day. Since he has been with us, he has grown loads in his confidence. Yam is mostly good on leash and rarely pulls. He loves going on hikes, playing with other dogs at the park and is well behaved off leash. We always walk around at the park or on hikes with him off leash; he never wanders off too far and often checks to make sure we are close. His recall is great (unless he has found something he wants to eat on the ground). Yam is good with dogs and people; however, he doesn't like strangers petting him on his head. He does take a little time to warm up to new people. He does soft nibbling when playing. He doesn’t have any triggers and is pretty relaxed. He rarely barks but occasionally does if he is startled/threatened by something. His new owners will need to be patient and take things slowly as he gets nervous in new situations, but once he trusts you his confidence blooms. I think because of his playful puppy nature and large size he would be better in a home without small children. I can't think of a better dog to have in your life! We love Yam!

Foster Update 10/11/23: Yam is the sweetest, gentlest and most cuddly pup. He is an 8 month old Lab Mix. When we started to foster he was very timid and needed lots of positive reinforcement, encouragement and patience. We have only had him for 2 weeks and in that time he has come leaps and bounds! We have potty trained him, he has the occasional pee accident but it's rare. We have taught him sit, come and 'look at me'.  His recall is improving! We take him to the dog park and he loves to play with other dogs, although sometimes if it's a large dog he gets a bit nervous. He is a quick learner and very obedient. We leave him alone now in our apartment and he doesn't chew or destroy anything. He deserves a loving home and owners that are willing to continue his training and be patient as he grows more confident, and give him LOTS of love! He sleeps through the night on his bed, but likes to be close to you all the time.

Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to insure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and desexed. Cortez dogs are not microchipped.
